Construction Highlights
The Central City Parkway was constructed by Ames Construction, Inc., one the nation's largest heavy civil and industrial general contractors, with Denver's DIA airport and highway 285 improvements on its long list of achievements. HNTB Companies, was also part of the design/build team and is a highly experienced engineering firm which many people will recall from the reconstruction of I-70 through Glenwood Canyon, as well as the more recent Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium. In addition, Sellards and Grigg, Inc., and TST Infrastructure, Inc., local engineering/consulting firms, provided construction administration services to the Central City Business Improvement District.

Work on the Central City Parkway began in 2003, and it opened at noon on November 19, 2004, a day ahead of schedule. Major earthwork equipment was used for this project, including twelve 100-ton rock trucks, a 14 cubic yard hydraulic shovel, two 15 cubic yard Cat 992 loaders, ten D10, D9 and D8 bulldozers, and numerous backhoes, drill rigs and water trucks. Designed for maximum safety, the Central City Parkway has special rock-catch ditches that prevent falling rock from bounding onto the roadway. In addition, and where necessary, the rock faces were bolted and covered with steel netting.

Besides safety and convenience, Central City Parkway was designed to consider and protect the lands and the wildlife ranges it passes through. By working with the Colorado Division of Wildlife and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Central City Business Improvement District minimizes the impacts to the environment and associated wildlife.
